Filter Compatibility

All standard size Austin Air units are interchangeable with all standard size filters. If you purchased a standard size HealthMate and would like to upgrade to any other filter type, simply purchase the replacement filter that suits your needs best. This universal compatibility provides flexibility to address changing air quality concerns.

What This Filter Removes

The HealthMate replacement filter addresses everyday air quality concerns by removing a wide range of contaminants:

  • Airborne particles including dust, pollen, and pet dander
  • Chemical vapors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
  • Household gases and cooking odors
  • Smoke and other airborne irritants

Filter Specifications

This replacement filter includes the pre-filter component and is available in both black and white to match your unit. Each filter weighs 24 lbs and measures 15" x 15" x 18". The substantial weight reflects the dense filtration media that provides comprehensive air cleaning.

Important Ordering Information

When ordering your replacement filter, please ensure you have selected the correct size and type before confirming your order, as there may be a restocking fee for returning filters that are ordered incorrectly. Verify your unit model number (FR400A for black, FR400B for white) to ensure proper fit.

Genuine Austin Air Quality

This is an authentic Austin Air replacement filter manufactured to the same specifications as the original filter included with your HealthMate unit. Using genuine replacement filters ensures your air purifier maintains its certified performance standards and continues to deliver clean, filtered air throughout its operational life.

Which filter types fit my Austin Air purifier?

If your purifier was manufactured prior to 1996, you can only replace your filter with an Allergy Machine filter.  If your purifier was manufactured in 1996 or later, you can replace your filter with any filter type:  Allergy Machine, HealthMate, HealthMate Plus or Bedroom Machine.

How did Austin Air determine their filters will last as long as five years?

The amount of carbon, the carbon bed thickness, and the amount of True Medical HEPA paper in our filters allows us to achieve a pro-rated five (5) year warranty.  Austin filters should last for five years in a normal household setting.

Why would a filter to need to be replaced in less than five years?

Using an Austin Air purifier in an area that has increased levels of airborne pollutants may cause a filter to be replaced in less than five years.   Indoor areas with many pets, new carpeting, paint fumes, heavy smoking, urban pollution, photo studio, etc. all can diminish a filter’s life.

How do I know when my filter needs to be replaced?

There are two indications that your filter needs to be replaced:

  1. An unpleasant odor coming from the unit means that the carbon in the filter is full and the filter needs to be replaced, and
  2. Significantly reduced airflow coming from the unit means that the HEPA filter is full and the filter needs to be replaced.
